"I got tender loving care and comfort. The school has felt like another home to me. When I look at myself when I first came to CTDS and looking at myself now, I have really improved. I can still get upset but I have much more control and I know how to help myself."

Maura, student

CHILDREN WE SERVE
The Community Therapeutic Day School enrolls children with severe emotional and neurological difficulties that interfere with their learning, preventing them from attending regular school programs. These children, ranging in age from 3-12, may have such problems as hyperactivity, withdrawal, autistic defenses, atypical development, distracting fantasies, major speech and language delays, behavioral disorders, or sensory integration deficits. They are unable to play and develop appropriate relationships with others.

We try to discern whether a disability's basis is emotional, physical, environmental, or some combination of factors. A child's overall functioning may be affected by uncontrolled feelings. A child may have specific organic issues such as vision, hearing, sensory motor, or language processing problems. A child's environment might be so chaotic that the child is too preoccupied with day to day survival to be able to concentrate on learning or relating.

Our children have a wonderful array of strengths and talents. At CTDS, we support the whole child.
