"The CTDS family has consistently displayed consummate professionalism while always holding the interests of children foremost. They are extraordinarily skilled at dealing with unusually complicated situations demanding a great deal of insight, perseverance, patience, and nurturance. The most impressive testament for CTDS is the success that many students achieve despite their enigmatic profiles."

DIAGNOSTIC EVALUATIONS

CTDS evaluates children of all ages at the request of parents and various counseling, educational and medical professionals. We serve as consultants to families seeking to understand their child. During diagnostic evaluations, we think about children from the perspective of the developmental process. Realizing that development has many interconnected pathways, we look at the following separate facets as an integrated whole: 1. Physical development 2. Speech and language 3. Cognition 4. Educational ability 5. Social development 6. Emotional development. Often a family brings with their child an immense portfolio of reports from various sources, and we help them to understand and evaluate these reports in the light of our own interviewing process. In the course of a year we evaluate between 50 and 100 children. Some may eventually attend our school. We refer many to other private day programs, and we support others in their public school classes by providing or facilitating additional therapies and educational services.

NEUROPSYCHOLOGICAL EVALUATIONS

Neurpsychological testing can be a powerful diagnostic tool, but more importantly, it can be a tool to initiate understanding and change for a child who is struggling with his or her vulnerabilities. Understanding a child's relative strengths and weaknesses allows one to teach the child new strategies or to reconfigure the environment to accommodate the child's strengths. With a clearer understanding of those strengths, new strategies can allow a child to function more efficiently and not continually experience the fatigue and frustration that accompanies less efficient functioning. Making effective changes in the match between the child and the world is not an easily accomplished task, but it is crucial to the success and emotional well-being of the child.

INCLUSION SERVICES

The Individual With Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) is a comprehensive Federal Law that mandates "free appropriate education for all children with disabilities." Throughout the country this concept is called "mainstreaming" or "inclusion."The Community Therapeutic Day School is actively involved in consulting with public schools. Within the framework of public education we help to design well orchestrated and integrated programs for individual children with disabilities.Clinical and educational services within the public school may include some or all of the following: a trained therapeutic tutor to work 1:1 with the child, individual and group child guidance work with parents, occupational and speech therapy, supervision and consultation with public school staff.
The inclusion programs designed by CTDS utilize the experience and knowledge of our staff to integrate the services within the public school program. CTDS believes that although some children require more intensive support of a private school, others can be mainstreamed in the public school.

GRADUATE SCHOOL TRAINING

CTDS provides training and internships for graduate students from local universities in various disciplines including special education, social work, child psychology and psychiatry, expressive therapy, counseling psychology, and occupational therapy.
